As an anthology, Pitta Kathalu tells four distinct stories that come with rare sensibilities, at least by the standards of the contrived tropes that Telugu cinema is known for. As against the presumption that it was supposed to be a Telugu-fied Lust Stories, the anthology is anything but. Netflix, for all we know, seems to have commissioned Pitta Kathalu with the intent of taking OTT entertainment (as the Telugu viewers have known it) to the next level while letting the stories, narrated by homegrown mainstream filmmakers, respect the nativity factor.
Nag Ashwin-directed xLife was expected to be the most fabulous of all but it turns out to be just an average one. It tells the story of a futuristic tech genius (played by singer Sanjith Hegde), who has taken four billion people for a ride. Shruti Haasan plays a catalyst in this story. Sanjith Hegde and Shruti Haasan in Pitta Kathalu (2021) | RSVP/Flying Unicorn Entertainment/Netflix
Pitta Kathalu (Micro Stories) comprises four short films, three of which are named after their female leads. The Telugu-language Netflix release has been produced by RSVP and Flying Unicorn Entertainment, which have previously rolled out anthology movies in Hindi and Tamil.
There are two kinds of women in
Pitta Kathalu: righteous and villainous. All of them are wrecking balls, swinging this way and that to disturb the equipoise of the people in their lives.
The overarching themes of love and betrayal are best explored in
Ramula, written and directed by Tharun Bhascker. Ramula (Saanve Megghana) is the first (and by no means the last) character in the omnibus production to have a lover unworthy of her affections. Ram (Naveen Kumar) has a lustrous head of hair but a bent spine. His inability to confess his love to his father pushes Ramula into the claws of th
