Larvita McFarquhar, owner of Haven’s Garden in Lynd, was called onstage with guest speaker Richard Mack at an event Jan. 29. While McFarquhar is still being fined for not complying with COVID-19 restrictions at her business, the restaurant has hosted some Friday night events like Mack’s talk and a Valentine’s Day dinner.
LYND Haven’s Garden was quiet the morning of Feb. 9, although a flier at the door advertised a Valentine’s Day dinner party later that week.
The lights were off in the Lynd restaurant’s bar area and part of the seating area, and there weren’t any customers eating or stopping in to place orders. ....

State takes action against 2 more Minnesota businesses over COVID-19 restrictions
A Dec. 18 Minnesota Department of Health inspection found the Long Pine Store and Pizza north of Pine River violated Gov. Tim Walz s executive order prohibiting bars and restaurants from offering indoor service.

PINE RIVER, Minn. The Minnesota Department of Health announced Monday, Dec. 28, it issued a cease-and-desist order and notices of license suspension to Long Pine Store and Pizza north of Pine River after determining it violated an executive order intended to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
Gov. Tim Walz issued Executive Order 20-99 in mid-November prohibiting bars and restaurants from offering on-premises dining amid a rapid acceleration in cases and hospitalizations. State issues cease-and-desist, notice of suspension to Cass County business


According to Minnesota Department of Health Assistant Commissioner Dan Huff, enforcement actions are a last resort when it is clear education and outreach are not sufficient to help a regulated establishment come into compliance with requirements, a news release stated.
“COVID-19 protocols are designed to slow the spread of this virus and reduce the impacts of this pandemic,” Huff stated in the release. “Our preference is always to work with businesses to bring them into compliance, and we consider regulatory actions as a last resort. The vast majority of businesses are doing their best to help slow down the spread of COVID-19, and we owe it to them to have a consistent and fair enforcement approach.” ....

Latest on COVID-19 in MN: Vaccinations bring hope in a tough week

Minnesota officials on Wednesday reported another 75 COVID-19 deaths, extending an already dreadful December and making it a near-certainty that the state will reach a brutal milestone 5,000 total deaths by week’s end, and probably by Thursday.
At the same time, other key COVID-19 metrics continue to offer definite signs of hope. New daily caseloads are retreating from their late November, early December peaks.
The Health Department posted 1,513 newly confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases, part of more than a week of relatively moderate new caseloads and the lowest in two months. An expected surge from Thanksgiving gatherings hasn’t surfaced. ....
