It’s an ill-timed setback for the Twins and for the 23-year-old Kirilloff, a former first-round pick and consensus Top 50 overall prospect in MLB who’d been their hottest hitter of late. Kirilloff was called up for an audition two weeks ago, and while he got out to a miserable 0-for-15 start, he’d finally begun to see his huge hard-contact rates bear fruit.

BOSTON - A gene called KRAS is one of the most commonly mutated genes in all human cancers, and targeted drugs that inhibit the protein expressed by mutated KRAS have shown promising results in clinical trials, with potential approvals by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration anticipated later this year. Unfortunately, cancer cells often develop additional mutations that make them resistant to such targeted drugs, resulting in disease relapse. Now researchers led by a team at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) have identified the first resistance mechanisms that may occur to these drugs and identified strategies to overcome them. Ossining High School senior Michael Pavelchek is one of 40 finalists in the prestigious Regeneron Science Talent Search for his research on allergic asthma.
Earlier this month, Michael and six other OHS seniors in the Science Research Program were selected as semifinalists for the 80th annual contest. Regeneron and the Society for Science chose 40 students from the top 300 scholars to advance to the finals, which will take place virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, from March 10-17. They will compete for more than $1.8 million in awards; each finalist will receive at least $25,000.
