Yarn maker to invest $30M in new Georgia plant, hiring 40

Yarn maker to invest $30M in new Georgia plant, hiring 40 February 18, 2021 GMT ROME, Ga. (AP) A company that makes synthetic yarns for carpetmakers and automotive uses will invest $30 million to expand a northwest Georgia factory over the next five years, adding 40 jobs. Integrated Fiber Solutions said Tuesday that it will build a new factory next door to its current Rome plant to meet growing demand. The 35-year-old company now has 300 employees in Rome and 300 more in Dalton and Lafayette. The privately-owned firm supplies synthetic yarns to multiple carpet and rug makers. Construction is expected to begin in March and be complete before the end of the year, said Missy Kendrick of the Rome/Floyd County Development Authority.

OldCastle Facility to Create Up to 50 Jobs in Floyd County

Global Atlanta Oldcastle will bag mulch at the new facility on 40 acres in Rome. Irish building materials giant Oldcastle APG’s lawn and garden division is putting a new facility in Rome, an investment that will employ up to 50 people after it begins production in the spring of 2022.    Located on 40 newly purchased acres, the company will build a small facility for mulch bagging, though most dyeing and preparation work will be done outdoors. The full capital investment was not disclosed. The facility will be the division’s second in Interstate 20 about 60 miles from Atlanta.   According to Oldcastle APG President Tim Ortman, Floyd County won out after a search that spanned 12 northwest Georgia counties.

Fed report: Personal income up in Rome, across Northwest Georgia

The report shows the income of Floyd County residents ranked 46th in the state of Georgia. The federal government defines per capita personal income as an area’s personal income divided by its population. While the Floyd County income numbers were up by $932 compared to the previous year, the per capita personal income was still more than $8,900 below the state figure of $48,236 and almost $13,200 below the national figure of $52,490. Rome-Floyd County Development Authority President Missy Kendrick said the personal income data can be indicative of a double-edged sword. When new industries are looking for places to locate, they are frequently looking at all kinds of data, including the cost of labor in any given community.

Sunrise Manufacturing to build new plant in Floyd County Industrial Park

Sunrise Manufacturing revealed plans Monday to purchase 10 acres in the Floyd County Industrial Park for a new facility. The company is currently based in a small building on 2.16 acres at 1900 Parrish Drive in the Gateway Industrial Park off U.S. 27 South. It has agreed to buy the new property for $175,000. “Congratulations to Sunrise and all their employees. As chairman of the Development Authority of Floyd County, I welcome them as the newest tenant in the Floyd County Industrial Park,” said Ryan Earnest. The sale of the 10 acres still leaves the development authority with at least four tracts in that industrial park. Those parcels range from 10 acres to 50 acres.
