THE Compton Primary schoolgrounds will come alive with livestock in the coming weeks as upper primary students join the Cows Create Careers program.
The South Australian Dairyfarmers’ Association initiative will be delivered at 35 schools across the state, creating an awareness of dairy industry careers with students through hands-on activities.
Compton Primary School students will care for two calves, which will remain on the school’s property during the program.
Focused around an industry-based curriculum, local dairy farmers will visit students and teach them how to care for the calves with an industry advocate also participating, educating students on career pathways into the dairy lifestyle.

COMMUNITY groups, organisations and individuals can now apply for the Limestone Coast Landscape Board’s latest Grassroot Grant program.
Through a funding pool of $250,000, the board will strive to support innovative and exciting ideas on how to successfully manage the Limestone Coast landscape.
Board chair Penny Schulz said the Grassroots Grant program was an important element in the Landscape SA reform agenda, which ensures there is more funding opportunities for local communities dedicated to enhancing the region’s landscape.

A SERIES of annual academic awards celebrating Limestone Coast students’ education, community service and school spirit have been handed out as part of end-of-year celebrations.
The Barker Shield Program celebrated 24 high school students across eight regional facilities with academic and community service and spirit awards among the accolades, as well as a category determined by each participating school.
Member for Barker Tony Pasin said each students positive contribution would be permanently honoured through the perpetual Barker Shield, which is displayed in a prominent location at each school.
