Messenger Post Media CANANDAIGUA – With the holidays approaching and everyone in need of a little extra cheer this year, the folks at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center decided to make a simple request of the community. Via a Dec. 1 post on the Facebook page of the skilled-nursing facility’s parent organization, UR Medicine Thompson Health, they asked if people would consider sending cards, drawings or letters addressed simply “to someone special.” That way, they could distribute whatever happened to arrive amongst the residents of the 178-bed Parrish Street facility. The staff was amazed to see the post shared hundreds of times, with well over 50,000 Facebook users reached, but they wondered if it would translate into anything tangible. Fast forward two weeks and they had received more than 1,700 cards, letters, drawings and ornaments from individuals, families, schools and more. As of this past Monday, they had reached more than 3,100 and counting.
