SEATTLE The stage is nearly set for a moment that is more than a decade in the making.
On Monday, production crews were rapidly assembling a stage at Seattle s Gasworks Park that will help introduce the first class of Seattle Kraken players.
The team s so-called expansion draft will be held Wednesday in a made-for-tv event broadcast by ESPN. The Kraken will pick players from established rosters of 30 other franchises to come up with their initial team. At least a few are scheduled to be introduced in person, when the event gets underway at 5 p.m.

“People are just needing everything and anything they can get their hands on,” said Jessie Meyer, an employee at Mountain to Sound Outfitters in West Seattle.

SEATTLE The air is cold, the sun just stretching out of bed when Bill Hoppin steps through the swoosh of the automatic doors at the Mirabella retirement high-rise, looks down the street toward Lake Union, and begins mile 19,048.
Like the scent of snow in the air, Hoppin can smell the 20,000-mile mark a goal he has been working toward, one mile, one hour, one cup of hot chocolate at a time, for a decade.

Robert B. Dayton Jr. (“Bob”), 93, of Williamsport, Pa., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. Surviving is his loving wife of 69 years, Rosemary (Berkheiser) Dayton.
Born April 24, 1927, in Williamsport, he was a son of Robert B. Dayton Sr. and Marion (Hebden) Dayton. Bob attended Williamsport High School, but left in his junior year to join the merchant marine in 1945, where he served as a radio officer on cargo ships carrying military supplies to various ports in Europe, and later bringing troops back home. He obtained his training in radio communications at Williamsport Tech, a division of the Williamsport High School where a special department was set up to provide this specialized training at night, after normal class hours.
