2021 JUN 10 (NewsRx) By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Information Technology Daily Researchers detail new data in Information Technology - Data Visualization. According to news reporting originating in Wuhan, People’s Republic of China, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, “Data visualization has been increasingly important with the deployment of advanced

What has COVID-19 taught us about decarbonized electricity grids?

Author: Luis Badesa, Research Associate, Imperial College London & Goran Strbac, Professor of Electrical Energy Systems, Imperial College London In early 2020, COVID-19 lockdowns led to reduced electricity demand around the world. In Great Britain, the majority of the demand was covered by renewables, but this generation mix temporarily compromised the stability of the grid. These insights into a future of decarbonized grids highlight the challenges we face but also how we might solve them.

Intelligent turbines for green energy from tidal water power

E-Mail IMAGE: Simulation of a vertical-axis tidal turbine: the flow area shows the complex dynamics in the turbine rotor (Hoerner 2020) view more  Credit: Stefan Hoerner Tidal hydroelectric power plants of the future will be able to generate green electricity significantly more efficient by using optimized turbines. Engineers from the University Otto von Guericke of Magdeburg are developing turbine blades with built-in motors. These integrated drives ensure that during each revolution, the turbine blades adjust optimally to the water flow, and thus avoid the dangerous stall condition. This term describes the separation of flow away from the surface of turbine blades, airplane wings or rotor blades. Stall means that lift forces that power the turbines or keep a plane in the air suddenly drop, while the drag forces increase dramatically. In turbines, this leads to a loss of efficiency, and over longer periods of time, to material failures and fatigue fractures in the

Electric/Hybrid - Nissan, E ON Drive and Imperial College highlight the benefits of Vehicle-to-Grid technology - Renewable Energy Magazine, at the heart of clean energy journalism

A White Paper published today - the result of a major collaboration involving carmaker Nissan, E.ON Drive and Imperial College London - explores how the bi-directional charging capability of electric vehicles (EVs) could contribute to lower emissions and help achieve long-term goals in relation to climate change. Courtesy of Nissan The White Paper offers supporting recommendations and calls for the introduction of incentives to accelerate widespread adoption of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging systems, enabling potential benefits to be unlocked. It also addresses some of the challenges that will be faced in the early days of V2G, particularly around creating a reliable business case in the context of evolving energy markets and regulation.
