Minster to apply for grant for playground equipment

MINSTER – Minster Council dealt with a busy schedule at its meeting May 18 that included approving motions ranging from park grant applications to rebuilding another section of 7th Street. Also, a village teen received a scholarship.
Council gave the go-ahead for the village to apply for an $86,097 Ohio Department of Natural Resources Nature Works Grant to improve the Park Street Park playground equipment. It was decided that the new equipment would be called Stallostown Playground. Village Administrator Don Harrod said they plan to have the grant application submitted by the June 1 deadline and would hear later this summer if they had been awarded the funding.
Water tower work begins in June

MINSTER – Minster Council met May 4 to hear about plans for the village’s water supply and upcoming road projects. Also, the dates reopening village recreation facilities were revealed.
Village Administrator Don Harrod said they are beginning to plan for the repairs to be made to the Ohio Street Water Tower. After discussions with Danone and tower repair company Worldwide Industries, he said the week of June 7 will be when they can drain the water town and complete leak repairs. At that time, he said, Danone will also be in their maintenance shut down period, reducing their need for water.
Council selects site for new water tower

MINSTER – Minster Council agreed at its meeting Tuesday, April 6, to the potential location of the new water tower destined to replace the aging one on Ohio Street. They also cleared the way for Bud’s Pizza to be able to obtain a liquor license.
The new water tower location is slated to be off of West Seventh Street next to the village composting site. Estimated cost for the new tower will be $2 million. Village Administrator Don Harrod said the next step is to do soil test borings at the site to make certain it is suitable for the new structure.
