MidAmerica Industrial Park Celebrates 60 Years With New Retail Center
MidAmerica Industrial Park in Pryor celebrated its 60th anniversary Friday and opened a new retail center. It s almost like you wake up and see what you ve done, you re working on it every day then all of a sudden - wow, MidAmerica Chief Executive Officer David Stewart said.
The 162-acre retail center called The District is Phase One of MidAmerica s three-part infrastructure plan. The next two phases include apartments, parks, bike trials and 100 homes.
Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell said this all came from the imagination of the Pryor community. Kudos to them for that vision, Pinnell said. That s what Oklahomans do, to have these big bold visions, and they ve certainly had it in Pryor.
MidAmerica Industrial Park in Pryor opened up a retail center today that saw ground broken in 2018.
It’s part of a 162-acre development that’s slated to eventually have a 300-unit apartment building and 100 homes.
David Stewart is the CEO of MidAmerica. He spoke at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the center and said the expansion is about making the park more competitive for big companies.
“Economic development is now a highly competitive industry. Every community in the nation and the world is competing for every corporation to invest there and employ people there. So think about that. Think about how competitive it is to get a company in front of you and explain why they should be here,” said Stewart.
Leaders of seven area colleges and universities are optimistic a new approach will help them graduate more students with degrees.
The Tulsa Higher Education Consortium grew out of work to improve Tulsa Community College students’ experience transferring to other local institutions, and the organization wants to continue streamlining that process to make it easier for students to earn their degrees.
THE Consortium Executive Director Dr. Laura Latta said something to keep in mind is the seven member institutions 40,000 students are a diverse group, so a one-size-fits-all education won’t work. Nearly half of students are age 25 or older and have jobs, homes and families, and students of color will likely be a majority of the area’s college students in the next 10 years.
