SFCC Foundation Adds Six New Board of Directors
The State Fair Community College Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of six new members who will serve two-year or three-year terms on its Board of Directors.
The new members are Thomas J. Van Leer, Steve Scheiner, Megan Page, Stephanie Garrett, Dr. Jon Ehlers, and Laura Harris. The board currently has 15 members.
Thomas J. Van Leer is an Edward Jones financial advisor. He serves as vice president of Open Door Service Center board and Kiwanis Club of Sedalia. Van Leer also serves on multiple committees at St. Vincent de Paul Church and is Sacred Heart School’s elementary basketball and baseball coach. He and wife Liz have four children, Mariah, Max, Maggie and Emma Jean. ....

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two Kansas City, Missouri, organizations are among the recipients of pre-apprenticeship grants from the state’s Office of Workforce Development.
The Full Employment Council and Metropolitan Community College were chosen to receive grants of up to $50,000 through the Missouri Apprentice Ready initiative, according to a news release.
Missouri Apprentice Ready launched in February and is “an initiative that invests U.S. Department of Labor funds toward the development of pre-apprenticeship opportunities, supporting pathways to Registered Apprenticeships,” the release stated. ....

NECAC to offer apprenticeship program

BOWLING GREEN, Mo. — A new training program offered by the not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation and its partners will give participants skills they can use to get a variety of jobs.
The Registered Apprenticeship Program will provide on-the-job training to people who NECAC hires for weatherization positions.
The effort is a partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, Missouri Department of Labor, the Northeast Missouri Workforce Development Board and St. Charles Community College.
“We put together a program to train apprentices on performance labor,” NECAC Deputy Director for Housing Development Programs Carla Potts said. “Our goal is to hire people for weatherization, but the skills participants learn will allow them to work just about anywhere as well as for college credit.” ....
