Grandad was a coal merchant and my dad and his brothers started out their adult lives working for him and eventually took over the business. My mum’s side of the family was really arty and creative and ballet was the love of her life. She was from Sheffield and had been a ballet dancer in her youth, even going on to teach it while she was still quite young. They were both on holiday in the Isle of Man with friends when they met and fell in love, and she eventually moved over to Liverpool when they married.

Everton have completed the signing of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Bournemouth on an initial one-year deal.
The 34-year-old arrives for an undisclosed fee from Championship side Bournemouth, becoming Everton s second summer signing after the arrival of Andros Townsend earlier on Tuesday.
The former Stoke and Chelsea keeper has signed a 12-month contract, with the club holding the option to extend it for an additional year.

Gordon West joined Everton from Blackpool for £27,500 in March 1962, ‘a world record that will never be broken’ according to the press, as the miner’s son from Barnsley became Harry Catterick’s first signing. Athletic, agile determined and composed, West played in goal 399 times for Everton and collected a full complement of medals before leaving the club in 1973. Tempted back out of retirement by Tranmere Rovers in October 1975, he played 17 games in total and provided first-team cover for four years before calling it a day. He appeared three times for England and it would probably have been more but he withdrew from the 1970 World Cup squad for family reasons.
