TEN, NINE, EIGHT… The countdown to the reopening of hotels is nearing zero and staff at the Beetham Tower’s Hilton Hotel have been getting a little excited. Since last Friday, they have been darting between bedrooms turning lights on and off to remind the people of Manchester just how long they have to wait before they are able to sleep in a bed that isn’t theirs again. Cynics might lambast the Hilton for its
laissez faire attitude towards energy consumption but considering hotels have been closed for most of the past 14 months, I think we can let them off.

Licensees of one of Invernessâs oldest pubs are celebrating a decade at the helm.
Craig MacLeod and Collette MacPherson are marking the occasion with a toast of thanks to the local community for supporting them throughout their time in charge â and especially during the pandemic.
They took over The Innes Bar, in Innes Street, in March 2011 when it was little used and unloved.
