Marathon, Not A Sprint Local Residents Continue To Oppose Controversial Bath Township Biowaste Operation

Protestors rally in the parking lot of the Bath Township building. Dozens of people gathered at the Bath Township Trustee building in Fairborn Wednesday night to protest the controversial bio-waste operation on Herr Road owned by Central Ohio-based Renergy Inc. The protestors said they know their opposition will be a marathon, not a sprint. Last week, Greene County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Buckwalter ruled that the Bath Township biodigester is a public utility, because it creates a small amount of green energy. That makes it exempt from local zoning rules, per Ohio state law. Township trustees said earlier this week in a Facebook post that they would filed a motion to appeal the decision.

Darryl Fairchild Darryl Fairchild is running for re-election as a Dayton City Commissioner. He is the only incumbent out of seven candidates in an especially crowded race. Commissioner Darryl Fairchild is the only incumbent running for one of two Dayton City Commissioner seats. This is his fourth time running. He won in a special election in 2018, and is continuing to continue his work for another term. Fairchild did not seek an endorsement from the Montgomery County Democratic Party this year. However, he is confident that his ties to the community will push him forward. WYSO’s Mawa Iqbal sits down with Fairchild to talk about his campaign.

Wright State University Mark Owens serves as the chair of the Montgomery County Democratic Party. The party endorsed two candidates for Dayton city commissioner and one candidate for mayor. WYSO s Mawa Iqbal sits down with chair of the Montgomery County Democratic Party to talk about the city commissioner race. There are seven candidates running for two open Dayton city commissioner seats. According to local Democratic Party officials, Dayton hasn’t seen a race this crowded in 30 years. Commissioner Darryl Fairchild is the only incumbent in the race. He’s served for three years. The other candidates are: Stacey Benson-Taylor, Valerie Duncan, Jared Grandy, Scott Sliver, Shenise Turner-Sloss and Jordan Wortham.
