/ Four Kansas City-area teens working through an internship with nonprofit Startland have authored a proposal for municipalities to ban the use of tobacco in cars where children are present. Citing the dangers of secondhand smoke, four high school students proposed an ordinance banning adults from using nicotine products, marijuana and vape pens in cars and public transportation where minors are present.
Five years ago, most Kansas City-area municipalities
banned the sale of tobacco products to those under 21 years old. Now four local high school students, including a Blue Valley sophomore, want to take things a step further and outlaw smoking, vaping and other tobacco use in vehicles where minors are present.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â The environment, children and smoking are issues Vari Patel and three other teens from the Kansas City metro felt needed attention so people can live healthier lives. And when you re inside a car while someone is smoking, this cessation is 100 times greater inside of a car than when it is in an outside environment, Patel said.
