But rather than get their teeth into a fully thought-out version of the country’s own Reach (registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals) legislation, companies are facing a law that is just beginning to evolve. Initially a direct copy of its EU counterpart, the practicalities and consequences of implementing UK Reach (the law’s official name, despite applying only in England, Scotland and Wales) are playing out gradually. The last few months were defined by companies grandfathering their EU chemical registrations to the UK system. If done by the 30 April deadline, this guaranteed continued access to the British market.

Amy Briggs said she had helped her seven-year-old son to learn the value of money by encouraging him to save up for the £1,300 bike. But the family were shocked to discover the lock-up where the bike is kept was broken into over the weekend, with Scott’s bike stolen. Scott’s uncle discovered the garage had been breached on Saturday morning, with only one of the four bikes stolen. The incident is believed to have happened sometime between 6pm on April 16 and 7.25am on April 17 on Robert Street.

Gourock jeweller raises cash for charity after friend diagnosed with leukaemia

A GENEROUS Gourock jeweller has come up with a crafty way to raise cash for a charity currently supporting her good friend who is battling leukaemia. Big-hearted Eilish McArthur, who runs By Eilish - a jewellery business borne out of the pandemic - has pledged to donate funds to Blood Cancer UK throughout the month of March. The 22-year-old product design graduate is selling hand-made earrings in support of Niamh Edelsten, girlfriend of her cousin Euan. She was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in January. Niamh felt unwell before Christmas and was believed to be suffering from a persistent chest infection.
