Nimmers remembered as a couple committed to Jasper County

A Ridgeland couple who were married for 65 years and known by many for their work helping others in the community recently passed away within 24 hours of each other.
Frederick Anthony Nimmer, 87, died Jan. 10, followed by his wife, Joan Smith Nimmer, 89, on Jan. 11. Freddie had been hospitalized at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston while Joan was hospitalized at St. Joseph s in Savannah at the time of their passing due to COVID-19 complications. They were childhood sweethearts and they both grew up in Ridgeland, their son Bill Nimmer said. They were always at their happiest when they were working together. Mom and Dad were always involved in the community.
