MANITOBA had the second-highest rate of overall family violence among the provinces in 2019, new Statistics Canada data show and some experts say it doesn’t come as a surprise.
Manitoba had 417 police-reported instances of family violence per 100,000 people that year, an increase of six per cent from 2018, according to the report released last week.
The rate was only higher in Saskatchewan 519 per 100,000 and the three territories, which aligns with higher crime rates overall in the North.
