Matt Nagy Didn t Totally Shoot Down the Idea of Justin Fields Starting Week 1 bleachernation.com - get the latest breaking news, showbiz & celebrity photos, sport news & rumours, viral videos and top stories from bleachernation.com Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday newspapers.
Matt Nagy has been chatty lately. But even when the Bears head coach opens up, he leaves plenty for interpretation and discussion. So it was almost jarring when ESPN Chicago radio host Marc Silverman – who was once a Bears beat reporter back in the day – jumped on the Zoom conference call with reporters and got some eye-opening answers from Nagy.
It all began with Silvy asking asked if anyone in the organization made promises to Andy Dalton that he would be the starter in Week 1.
“No, Marc,” Nagy said. “Promises can get pretty crazy. But what we told Andy is that he’s our starter. He knows that. That’s what Justin knows, that’s what Nick knows, and the rest of our coaches. … There were no promises, but we told him and I specifically told him you’re our starter. And that’s that.”

The Daily Herald has won 11 awards in the 2020 Peter Lisagor award competition, sponsored by the Chicago Headline Club.
In lieu of its annual banquet, the Headline Club on Friday announced the winners virtually.
It s so gratifying when other media professionals deem our staff s work worthy of accolades, said Managing Editor Jim Baumann. But while awards are nice, it s doing good for the community and our readers that s paramount.

Don t look for Mark Giangreco to be back on the radio any time soon, Robert Feder writes.
The veteran Chicago sportscaster had been a fixture for years on Good Karma Brands ESPN sports/talk WMVP 1000-AM, where he d join afternoon hosts Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman in the studio three times a week.
But Giangreco hasn t been on since late January when he was placed on administrative leave, and eventually fired, as top sports anchor at ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7 over comments directed at news anchor Cheryl Burton.
His settlement with ABC 7 doesn t prevent him from working elsewhere, but it s not clear if or when he ll return to ESPN 1000.
I have a song stuck in my head. And while it’s not a bad song, I’d like for it to get un-stuck from my head. Perhaps sharing it here will help. Or it will get it stuck in your head. Let’s mess around and find out:
• When I saw news that New England was terminating Julian Edelman’s contract, I wondered how long before he would be healthy enough to join Tampa Bay. It turns out that won’t happen, as Edelman is retiring. The 34-year-old receiver was drafted as a seventh-round quarterback out of Kent State in 2009, but carved out a niche as a slot receiver from 2009-2020. Edelman never made a Pro Bowl or earned All-Pro honors, but he did snag 620 passes, gain 6,822 yards, and score 36 touchdowns. He had three 1,000-yard seasons and was a premier performer in postseason play. I doubt his résumé is that of a Hall of Famer, but it’s definitely one of the most unique career arcs anyone has traveled.
