London police seek pickup driver after teens offered rides

London police searching for vehicle after two women approached

LONDON, ONT. London police want to speak to the driver of a truck after two women were approached in separate incidents last week. Police say around 5 p.m. on May 18, a man asked a 19-year-old woman on Cleveland Avenue if she wanted to go for a ride in his truck. She declined and the man drove off. The second incident took place on May 20, around 4 p.m. An 18-year-old woman was walking in the area of Marconi Boulevard and Noel Street when police say a man asked her to get into his truck but she refused. Neither woman was hurt but police would like to speak to the person in the truck.

Time saver: New breath-testing van to keep Columbus police on patrol

A new mobile breath-testing vehicle will allow Columbus police officers to be on patrol more while still getting suspected impaired drivers off the streets.  A patrol or traffic officer can request the specially equipped testing van to respond to the location of a traffic stop or crash where a driver is suspected of operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI). The officer in the van can conduct field sobriety and breath tests or type up a search warrant for a blood draw while the patrol officer impounds a vehicle or does other paperwork. The breath-testing vehicle will begin operations this month after a nearly two-year process. Its approximately $160,000 price tag did not cost Columbus taxpayers anything. The vehicle was purchased and donated by Anheuser-Busch s nonprofit AB InBev Foundation. Grants funded the vehicle s equipment.
