Off-Duty Firefighter Rescues Woman From Burning House
An off-duty Bend firefighter is being credited for saving a woman from a burning house. Jared Hopper, 28, has worked with Bend Fire Department for three years. According to a news release from the Oregon State Firefighter’ Council, Hopper was off-duty Friday morning and on his way to his second job when he saw heavy smoke billowing out of a house on Mariposa Avenue in Prineville. A distressed neighbor alerted him that there was a disabled woman who lived in the home.
Hopper ran into the smoke filled home and found a woman with a broken foot and lifted her into her wheelchair. He made his way out before the home became uninhabitable. After pushing her across the street Hopper made sure the woman was ok and didn’t need medical treatment for smoke inhalation.

Woman Shot, Killed In Koreatown In Possible Attempted Carjacking Syndicated Local – CBS Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) A 38-year-old woman was shot and killed overnight in Koreatown in what police said appeared to have been an attempted carjacking.
Police responded at 1:10 a.m. to a shooting near the intersection of Council Street and Mariposa Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The woman, who is from the Los Angeles area, was in the Koreatown area visiting a friend, according to police.
Police said they think someone was trying to rob or steal her car, and then they killed her. The suspect fled on foot southbound on Mariposa.

A woman died Saturday morning in a shooting in Koreatown..
Police responded at 1:10 a.m. to a shooting near the intersection of Council Street and Mariposa Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Witnesses told police the woman was walking to her vehicle with her dog when the attacker approached and shot her, said Officer Rosario Cervantes of the LAPD s Media Relations Section.
The attacker left the scene, southbound on Mariposa Avenue, Cervantes said.
The dog survived the attack, she said.
A detailed description of the attacker was not immediately available.
