Uncertainty continues as arts community rises from pandemic’s grip As shows are scheduled and events return, organizers wait for audiences to come back BY MICHAEL CRUMB, Senior Staff Writer Friday, May 28, 2021 6:00 AM The Downtown Farmers’ Market has announced plans to begin expanding its number of vendors and other activities beginning Saturday, May 29. The market kicked off its return to a live, in-person event on May 1, when it opened with 115 vendors, about half of what it normally has, and it was focused on vendors who are food producers. Vendors of prepared, ready-to-eat food and those selling arts and crafts were not included in the first two weeks of the market. 

Des Moines Performing Arts offers free 2021 metro summer programs

Des Moines Performing Arts not only is welcoming theatergoers back to in-person performances starting this winter, but offering six free events this summer for everyone to enjoy. Ranging from giant puppet hands and ants to a water balloon battle and a bilingual concert, the programs are: Yoga on the Commons 9 a.m. Sundays, June 6-Aug. 29 at Cowles Commons In partnership with Janet Casson Yoga, participants can learn from a different professional yoga instructor each week who will lead them through a practice suitable for all experience levels.  WATERBOMBS pop-up performance 2:30 p.m. June 25 at Evelyn K. Davis Park in Des Moines and 5:30 p.m. at Wagner Park in Ankeny; 1 p.m. June 26 at Union Park in Des Moines and 4 p.m. at Terra Park Great Lawn in Johnston; 1 p.m. June 27 at Walker Johnston Park in Urbandale and 4 p.m. at Pete Crivaro Park in Des Moines
