BROADWAY AT THE BALLPARK Returns For Second Year
Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and LMCU Ballpark collaborate to bring outdoor live show back to Grand Rapids.by Alexa Criscitiello
Today, Grand Rapids Civic Theatre announced the return of their collaboration with LMCU Ballpark to bring live theatre to the ballpark in August. Broadway at the Ballpark is scheduled for August 27th and 28th with shows at 7:00 pm each night.
The 2021 event will build on the success of the 2021 concert and will feature world-class entertainment and bigger and better entertainment experiences for all ages. The concert will feature Broadway favorites performed by Civic Theatre actors. This year, the event will also include more musical numbers, greater seating capacity, and an expanded selection of food and beverage, including beer and wine.

Getting a job as a young person isn t always the easiest and adding the affects of the pandemic on top of that doesn t make it any easier so this is a really cool opportunity for teens and young adults in Grand Rapids.
Through their youth empowerment program, GRow1000, the city of Grand Rapids will place 650 young people in different jobs this summer. In a press release from the city they say that individuals between 15 and 24 are encouraged to apply now. The program began last year and employed 354 people in more than 60 types of jobs across West Michigan.
City Manager Mark Washington praised the businesses that teamed with them to help the city s youth.

MUSKEGON, Mich. The Muskegon Civic Theatre is the only community theatre in Muskegon County. The troupe was busy rehearsing their big spring musical last March when the lockdown went into effect because of COVID-19. That s when everything stopped.
“What the heck do we do now?” said Managing Director Jason Bertoia’s. “Performing arts and live theatre is what our organization does . Large groups of people? That’s what we do!”
After he and Artistic Director Kirk Wahamaki, the only two full time employees of the organization, were furloughed for several months it was time to strategize.

The economic development group Grand Action 2.0 recently unveiled the results of a commissioned Venue & Attraction study, bringing Grand Rapids one step closer to becoming a destination for more events and tourism.
The Venue & Attraction Development for Grand Rapids Study, commissioned by Grand Action 2.0 and conducted by Convention, Sports and Leisure (CSL) International, was discussed at a virtual meeting of the Economic Club of Grand Rapids on Nov. 23. The discussion featured Grand Action 2.0 co-chairs Dick DeVos, Carol Van Andel and Tom Welch, as well as John Kaatz, principal with CSL, and John Shreve, principal with the international urban design and planning firm Populous, based in Kansas City, Missouri.
