MASHANTUCKET, Conn. A former Springfield dentist forced to retire after a 2016 fall at Foxwoods Resort Casino has won a $1.3 million settlement.
Gary Goodman slipped on “an accumulation of a liquid substance” while walking on the casino’s Grand Pequot concourse near Dunkin’ Donuts, attorney James Harrington of Waterford, Conn., told The New London Day.
Casino surveillance footage was a major factor in the outcome of the case in Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court, he said.
The footage from June 28, 2016 showed a liquid, probably water, had been dropped by a casino patron and was ignored by multiple employees who failed to clean it up for some 20 minutes when Goodman slipped on it, Harrington said.
A former Springfield, Mass., dentist forced to retire after injuring his ankle in a 2016 fall at Foxwoods Resort Casino, has won a $1.3 million settlement in a Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court case, according to his attorney.
Casino surveillance footage was a major factor in the case’s outcome, said James Harrington, of the Waterford firm Polito & Harrington.
“It made a very good capture of the event,” said Harrington, whose client, Gary Goodman, slipped on “an accumulation of a liquid substance” while walking on the casino’s Grand Pequot concourse near Dunkin’ Donuts shortly before noon on June 28, 2016. Harrington said the footage showed the liquid, probably water, had been dropped by a casino patron and had been ignored by multiple employees who failed to clean it up.

After 28 years and one month of non-stop gambling, defying blizzards and hurricanes, through bull and bear markets, the shock of Sept. 11, 2001 and the election of four presidents, Foxwoods was about to pause.
The tiniest and strongest of disrupters, the COVID-19 coronavirus, had done the impossible. It breached the bubble that keeps a casino a world unto itself, a place without clocks or windows, where the music never stops and the lights never dim.
