15 Gunmen Arrested After Shootout in Cancun

Authorities in Cancun arrested 15 gunmen and rescued a kidnapping victim following an afternoon clash in the beach resort hub.
The case took place on Tuesday afternoon when authorities raided a stash house that was being used by gunmen to hold kidnapping victims. According to the local news outlet NotiCaribe, as police forces neared the house, gunmen began shooting. While authorities were able to rescue one kidnapping victim and arrested several gunmen, a second victim was found dead. A member of Mexico’s national guard was injured and a gunman died.
The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office revealed that the case began earlier in the day when authorities were able to intercept six gunmen in two vehicles who had been linked to other violent crimes. The gunmen led authorities to the stash house where the victims were kept.

Ana Gomez, who went missing on December 18, had worked as a dishwasher at the hotel for the past six months, Michelle Cuervo, a native of Chiapas who’s been living in Quintana Roo, a Mexican state on the Yucatán Peninsula, for the last 20 years told Daily Beast. He was a regular at the hotel and has friends who work there.

Charges brought against 11 Cancun law officials in November demonstration

Cancun, Q.R. Charges have been brought against 11 Cancun law officials for their involvement in a public demonstration in November. In a press release, FGE head Óscar Montes de Oca Rosales said the officicls have been charged with injuries, theft and abuse of authority.
The charges stem from the November 9 public demonstration in Cancun where dozens gathered at city hall demanding justice for the recent murder of a young woman. During the demonstration, police used live bullets to disperse protesters. Ten people were listed as injured, including two journalists who were covering the event. Both were hit by flying bullets.
