Demon Bass Club Win Second State Title

Reeling in bass and hardware is what Washington students did on Saturday at the annual Iowa High School Bass Team Championships. The Demon Bass Club claimed their second consecutive state title at Pleasant Creek Lake near Palo. The competition had a total of 20 boats from 11 different schools with two people in a boat. Each boat was allowed to catch five keeper bass with the heaviest taking home the crown. The top two boats from each school decided the team standings and Washington weighed in at 17.08 pounds compared to second place Independence with 11.54 pounds. John Prochaska and Kole Williams won the individual championship with five bass that amassed to 9.78 pounds. Charlie Henriksen and Noah Kleese finished fifth with five bass that weighed 7.3 pounds. Trio of Area Teams Square Off at Cedarcrest

It’s an all-KCII area affair in Columbus Junction tonight when the Wildcats host a boys and girls golf triangular against the Washington Demons and Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. Mid-Prairie is the only one of the three teams to compete already this season, taking on Iowa City Regina in River Valley Conference action Monday. The Golden Hawk girls scored a win over Regina at Pleasant Valley 252-271 led by meet medalist Elliot Debler and her score of 60. The Mid-Prairie boys were beaten by the Regals 222-228 in Kalona. The Golden Hawk boys were led by Warren Scarff and his meet medalist runner-up round of 52.

Five Demons Receive All-SEC Recognition

No one had more representation on the 2020-21 Southeast Conference All-Conference Boys Basketball teams than Washington, as the conference champs had five players recently recognized by the league.   Ethan Patterson was one of just two sophomores selected to the first team. The 5’10’’ marksman led the league with 61 made three pointers while shooting at a 40% clip from deep. The guard tallied 15.7 points per game, shot 89.7% from the charity stripe, dished out 59 assists, and created 29 steals. Kasen Bailey and Trashaun Willis were named to the second team. Despite missing part of the season due to injury, Bailey was fifth in the conference with 62 assists and made the second most free throws with 65. He tallied 13.9 points per game, hauled in 52 rebounds, and created 19 steals.
