A repeat traffic offender avoided jail time but copped a large fine and suspension.
Michael James Cole, 43, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday to driving without a licence which while disqualified by court order and drug driving.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said Calliope police intercepted a Nissan station wagon on Tableland Rd, Taunton, on August 1, around 5.10pm.
She said checks on Cole’s licence revealed he was disqualified from driving in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on July 15, 2019, for three years.
Sergeant Hoskins said when questioned as to why he was driving while disqualified, Cole stated he had taken over driving a short time earlier after his female passenger had felt unwell while driving.

A man who told police he had wanted to punch his victim in the face ‘for a long time’ .
Wayne Michael Walsh, 44, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday to six charges including serious assault of a police officer by biting or spitting and serious assault of a person over 60.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said the worst of Walsh’s offending occurred on December 5 2019.
She said Walsh was the subject of an ‘Authority to Return’ issued under the Mental Health Act.
Sergeant Hoskins said about 12.45pm that day, Walsh and his victim were at the Gladstone community health centre where Walsh was seen regularly.

A frequent drug user fronted court in high-vis work clothes despite being unemployed.
Zachary Allan Lewis, 25, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday to 11 charges including four counts of possessing dangerous drugs and two counts of possessing drug utensils.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins read the facts of Lewis’ case to the court, the worst of which occurred on January 16 2021.
She said Tannum Sands police intercepted Lewis driving a brown Holden Commodore after observing him swerving between lanes and differing his speed.
Sergeant Hoskins said a blood-alcohol content reading of .113 and only had a provisional licence.
She said police observed two open cans of bourbon in the centre console of his car that were about half full.

A Gladstone magistrate said he had heard a defendantâs excuse âa thousand timesâ when sentencing him on Tuesday.
David John Roberts, 31, pleaded guilty to unlicensed driving.
The court heard that on December 20 last year, Robertsâ licence was SPER suspended.
On December 31, at the Rocky Glen Hotel parking lot, police observed a white Mercedes-Benz parked and Roberts get out of it.
He walked towards the venue, then returned to his car and drove away.
On January 2 this year, police attended Robertsâ address and questioned him about his reasons for driving while unlicensed.
