BEDFORD – That distinct sizzling sound, like the crackling of bacon on a Saturday morning, like the burning of wood in the fireplace on a cold winter night, was radiating from Chloe McKnight.
Bedford North Lawrence’s senior super shooter, with the flick of her right wrist, became basketball’s version of the Human Torch, on fire and fantastic. Her flames burned down the state’s best Class 2A team.

BEDFORD – Like an avalanche, starting with the collapse of a weak underlying layer, Bedford North Lawrence smothered and destroyed with a defense that became more deadly the more it plowed ahead.
Forcing turnovers at the accumulative rate of a heavy snowstorm, the Class 4A No.6 Stars overwhelmed Eastern Pekin the first round of the Limestone Classic on Tuesday morning.
The Class 2A No.9 Musketeers were guilty of 32 turnovers as BNL, quickly aware of that weakness, roared away to a 68-30 victory. Chloe Spreen scored 17 points and Irye Gomez added 16 as BNL advanced to the final to face 2A No.1 Linton (12-0). The Miners conquered Heritage Christian 61-47 in the second game.

BEDFORD – Chloe McKnight really didn’t want to wait one more game to make history. And as her senior teammate discovered, sitting at home under virus quarantine, that might never come. One more is not guaranteed any more. Carpe diem.
McKnight seized the day, becoming the eighth player in Bedford North Lawrence history to score 1,000 career points, as the No.7 Stars celebrated a premature Senior Night – minus one – with a memorable victory over Seymour.

BEDFORD – Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures, and 2020 certainly qualifies. That’s why, in case the worst should happen, Bedford North Lawrence will honor its best earlier than normal.
Normal? What’s that now? Rather than tempt Fate and wait until the traditional home finale in late January to celebrate the six seniors on the roster, the Stars will fast-forward the annual observance for the team elders to Thursday night.
The seventh-ranked Stars (7-1) will face Seymour (4-3) in an important Hoosier Hills Conference clash, but for a brief time that will be overshadowed as the senior class of Chloe McKnight, Irye Gomez, Jenna Louden, Haley Deckard, Makena Moore and Grace Kinser take their bows.
