McColm’s hand-painted mural features a firebird, a symbol in various Indigenous cultures and the school’s mascot. He was exposed to First Nations culture at a young age growing up on reserve in Terrace, home to the Nisga’a people.
“I think people don’t appreciate or don’t remember that this is a preliminary report, the true horror won’t be known until the report is finalized. And that’s just for one school,” McColm said of the 215 children that were found.

FORT St. JOHN, B.C – Local Tim Hortons owners are donating coffee and baked goods to frontline and essential workers in the city.
On April 7th and 8th, Ron and Julia Bowie make 14 stops to thank workers in the community for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We know that all of these groups have been instrumental in keeping our community operating and safe during these extremely difficult times,” says Julia Bowie in a release.
“They continue to work hard day in and day out, and we want to provide them with an opportunity to enjoy a break with a freshly brewed cup of coffee or baked good from our Tim Hortons restaurant.”

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – With so many clubs and sports groups in town scrambling for available space, Margaret Ma Murray school has opened its gym on weekends for youth sports groups.
Vice-Principal Hunter Mackay says it started as an idea floating around local social media groups. He says the initial release got the attention of around 25 clubs in town, but it lost some momentum.
“By the time it came down to contacting groups to get the application and the information, I only had two groups get back to me, and only one with a COVID-19 plan,” said Mackay.
