Mayor Cr Despi O’Connor joins Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel
The Victorian Government has appointed Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Despi O’Connor to the 2021 Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel.
The panel is established by the Minister for Local Government to provide feedback on legislative, regulatory, strategic and policy concerns that impact the local government sector.
The panel is chaired by the Minister and comprises 15 mayors, chosen to represent a mix of metropolitan, interface, regional, small and large councils.

Zebra crossing improves safety at Victoria St, Kyneton
A new zebra crossing is now operational in Victoria St, Kyneton with a crossing supervisor on duty to assist local students using the crossing. The infrastructure was funded through the TAC program “Towards Zero” campaign, whilst the extra supervisor was fully funded from Council’s 2019/20 Budget.
Council is pleased to provide these additional safety measures in response to requests from local school and community members.
“School crossing supervisors play an important role in helping children across the shire get to school safely,” said Angela Hughes, Director Planning and Environment.
“Council is pleased to add this additional Crossing Supervisor position to the 19 existing locations across the shire where our friendly team work diligently to keep our kids safe on their way to and from school.”
