PF considering food truck regulations

PIGEON FORGE — The city is considering new policies for food trucks, addressing a trend that has been growing for years but wasn’t allowed under existing policies. The trucks are mobile kitchens that are set up to make a limited menu and move from location to location. They’re popular for special events, and some municipalities now allow food truck parks that offer sites that multiple trucks can set up on a rotating schedule. The planning commission held a workshop Tuesday to discuss options for allowing them at special events. “Food trucks have become very popular the last few years and it’s something the city hasn’t addressed,” Director of Development David Taylor said.

Things to do in Pigeon Forge in 2021: Shopping, Dollywood, the Island

New housing at Dollywood approved

The two new buildings would be located on unused property near the American Eagle Foundation. The need for affordable housing for workers in the area has been a concern in Sevier County for years — including the need for J1 workers who come here on temporary visas and supplement the workforce during busy seasons. “It’s pleasing to see a big company like that take control of that and provide housing for employees,” Commissioner Tony Kyker said. “It’s a big problem.” The planning commission also approved plans Monday for an outdoor axe throwing area and pedal car rental area. The plans called for a covered, walled area on the development’s front green where people can toss axes, and a pedal car rental that would include a riding area on the Mountain Mile property. The cars would not be allowed on public roads.
