NORTH Wales Police is marking National Volunteers Week 2021 with a week-long social media campaign to highlight the contribution of volunteers in the Force. From Special Constables and Police Cadets to BikeSafe volunteers, Community Horsewatch, Search and Rescue Advisor and many others, North Wales Police volunteers help build important links between the police and communities, providing opportunities for individuals to make a positive contribution to their local area. Many of the force s officers and staff also volunteer to give their time with other agencies – such as the RNLI, the Scouts, Mountain Rescue Teams, the Coastguard, Childline and are involved with local clubs and sports.
The funeral of a mother-of-two whose body was found on the Comeragh Mountains in Co Waterford earlier this week has heard she brought âjoy and light to so many peopleâ and âadoredâ her family.
Gillian Ryan (37), from Thurles, Co Tipperary was also remembered for her love of athletics, cross country and road-running.
Ms Ryan went missing on Sunday afternoon while hiking in the popular Coumshingaun area. Her body was discovered on Monday evening following searches by the Mountain Rescue Teams and Emergency Services.
Her funeral took place at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Thurles on Saturday morning, which was attended by her husband Conor, daughter Amelia Rose and son Conor Jamie and parents.
A GROUP of 25 multi-award-winning landscape photographers from all over the United Kingdom have come together in support of stricken mountain rescue volunteer Chris Lewis. Chris suffered life-changing injuries as the result of a fall while on a rescue mission on February 6. The caring photographers, many of whom can lay claim to titles such as Landscape Photographer of the Year and World Landscape Photography winner, were quick to offer their support when approached by auction organisers, Paula Mould and Jason Hudson. Each photographer has kindly agreed to auction an image from their prestigious portfolio, with the aim of raising a substantial amount of money to help support Chris, who will sadly now need support and care for the rest of his life.
