Life on other worlds? Uh, where do we go to sign up? Find out about extraterrestrial life with this National Geographic Live virtual show from the Overture Center. The show, with planetary scientist and astrobiologist Kevin Hand and senior mechanical engineer at NASAâs Jet Propulsion Laboratory Kobie Boykins, will center on the upcoming landing of the Perseverance on Mars to search for signs of ancient life and collect rock and soil samples, and research into Jupiterâs moon Europa, which has a subsurface ocean. The 60-minute virtual show includes live, moderated conversation and audience Q&A. Tickets are available at overture.org for $20.
Two local groups, Quest Science Center and the Rae Dorough Speaker Series, will join Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center to present a series of National Geographic Live virtual speaker events running from January through April 2021.
The six events cover a wide range of topics, from exploring the potential for âLife on Other Worldsâ to complex issues surrounding âWomen and Migration.â The virtual events combine premium storytelling and visually-stunning imagery in the tradition of the legendary magazine, offering first-hand accounts of science and adventure, as told by world-class explorers who seek to inspire change in the world. Each 60-minute event includes a moderated discussion between two speakers with pre-recorded content interspersed with live conversation, as well as question and answer periods.
