As healthcare workers around the world race to get the COVID-19 vaccine distributed, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has joined the effort by opening a vaccination clinic in the Southern Management Corporation (SMC) Campus Center.
The clinic is staffed by volunteers made up of UMB faculty and staff, UMBâs Office of Emergency Management, as well as student volunteers from the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON), and University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP).

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill., May 5, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ Laura Bernaix, PhD, RN, is retiring as dean of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Nursing (SON), effective May 31. An interim leadership plan will be announced shortly.
Bernaix s service to the University, the community and healthcare field have made a tremendous impact. The SON has experienced significant expansion, developed innovative programs, and provided an exemplary model for creative partnerships. With record enrollment and exciting new initiatives, the School thrived during her tenure.
An SIUE alumna, Bernaix served the University for more than 30 years. She provided significant service to the School in various capacities, including chair of the Department of Primary Care and Health Systems Nursing from 2009-13 and associate dean from 2013-2014. Bernaix was named dean in April 2016 after serving as interim dean since June 2014 and securing the position after a national search.

He has served as president since January 2017 and has been a member of NSUâs faculty, staff and administration for 33 years.
âThis is a decision that was made during prayerful deliberation with my family and was based entirely on considerations of our familyâs future plans and aspirations. There has been no pressure or even the slightest nudge from anyone for me to step down from the presidency,â Maggio stated.
He said, âAs gratifying as it has been to work over the years in athletics, recruitment and enrollment management, alumni and development, student affairs and as a vice-president and president, those responsibilities have necessitated extensive time away from my family.â

Northwestern State president Chris Maggio announced Friday that he will retire from the university effective July 1, 2021. He has served as president since January of 2017 and has been a member of NSU’s faculty, staff, and administration for 33 years.
