In what could be a sign of a break in country radio’s unified front, the currently forbidden superstar Morgan Wallen is back on the airwaves on at least one station that had put him on hold, WMYL-FM in Knoxville. The station may have more reason than most to return him to its playlist Knoxville is Wallen’s hometown but it does raise the question of how long the country radio industry will continue to speak with one voice in keeping music’s most successful recording artist of the moment off the air.

In Exile, Morgan Wallen Tops Album Chart for a Fourth Week, With Real Impact of Scandal Yet to Be Seen

It may have been a disastrous week for Morgan Wallen in most ways, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at the album chart, where country’s newest superstar and, for now, its most famous pariah remains at No. 1 for a fourth consecutive week.
Wallen’s “Dangerous: The Double Album” remained on top of the Rolling Stone album chart with numbers that were both up and down. In the overall picture, it had 144,200 album-equivalent units for the week, an increase from 127,600 in its third week. But that reflected an uptick in sales even as the album trended downward in streams. Album sales were at 28,400 (up from 10,800 last week) and individual song sales came in at 55,500 (up from 33,000). With Morgan Wallen’s name being anathema for the moment in the country music industry, it’s not surprising that the biggest star of the moment would be dropped from any performance slot that might have been scheduled for April’s Academy of Country Music Awards telecast. But the ACMs are going beyond that the scandal-plagued star has been disqualified from even competing for the awards.
