GATLINBURG — The new executive director of the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts is no stranger to the school. In fact, for Trudy Hughes, Arrowmont has been part of her life since childhood and her last job, as vice president of regional advancement at East Tennessee Foundation, had her working with and learning even more about the school. “My first trip to Arrowmont was in 1967 with my parents. I was about to turn 7. Gatlinburg was a small little town then,” Hughes said. Her family would come to Gatlinburg and let her stop in at the school’s store and buy something one of the artists made.
