Call for risk assessment on providing respite for carers once dependents are vaccinated Published: Sunday, 07 March 2021 11:41 A Mayo Deputy is calling for a risk assessment to be carried out on providing respite for carers where the person being cared for has been vaccinated. Sinn Fein TD Rose Conway-Walsh says all the staff in the care setting have been vaccinated and all the residents in the care home or district hospital have been vaccinated. She says this is now a real humanitarian issue.  Carers are crumbling with the pressure of not having had a break for over a year. Deputy Conway-Walsh says one carer told her she can t even bring her children for a walk as the person she is caring for is 86 and has dementia and needs 24 hour care.

Mayo Deputy calling for leadership in vaccine distribution Published: Thursday, 25 February 2021 13:31 A Mayo Deputy says the rollout of the vaccination programme in the county had been “all over the place” with some practices receiving no supplies while others received far too much for their needs. Fianna Fail TD Dara Calleary instanced his own home town of Ballina where three practices received a supply of vaccines and three did not. Deputy Calleary has questioned who is in charge of the vaccine roll-out and says there are certain issues that need to be resolved. However, he says the plan to have all of the over 85 s to be vaccinated by next week is still well on track.

A Mayo Deputy introduced a bill in the Dail this afternoon to protect students renting accommodation Published: Thursday, 25 February 2021 16:09 A Mayo Deputy introduced a bill in the Dail this afternoon to protect students renting accommodation. Landlords would be required to repay rent to students who have not been able to occupy accommodation due to public health advice and Covid regulations under a new bill. Sinn Féin Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh tabled the Student Accommodation Bill in the Dáil today. The bill proposes inserting a new section to the Residential Tenancies Act 2004. Under the new section, students will have to give 28 days notice up to a period of time when they will not be occupying the accommodation and will legally require landlords or universities to repay rent for that period.
