The passing on of the chairman of the Public Service Commission Stephen Kinyanjui Kirogo last week caps an illustrious public service career spanning over 35 years.
Mr Kirogo became the commission’s second chairman under the 2010 Constitution in August 2018, succeeding Prof Margaret Kobia who had been appointed Cabinet Secretary the same year.
Prior to his appointment as PSC Chairperson, Kirogo was the Principal Administrative Secretary/Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet in the Presidency and Cabinet Affairs Office. The Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Stephen Kirogo, is dead.
Announcing his demise, President Uhuru said Kirogo died on Friday while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
Uhuru has since sent his condolence message to the family, remembering Kirogo as a distinguished public servant who contributed immensely to the transformation of Kenya s public service by initiating critical reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency in service delivery.
“It is sad that the cruel hand of death has robbed us of Mr Kirogo, a polished gentleman and refined administrator whose contribution to the transformation of our country s public sector shall be sorely missed,” he said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the redeployment of nine Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Civil Service.
Folasade Yemi-Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), made this known in a circular on Thursday.
The permanent secretaries are: Musa Istifanus, from Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy to Ministry of Defence; Gabriel Aduda, from Ministry of Youths and Sports Development to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ernest Umakhihe, moves from the Ministry of Works and Housing to Agriculture and Rural Development; Festus Daudu, from HOCSF’s office to Communication and Digital Economy.
Nebosila Anako moves from the Ministry of Information and Culture to Youths and Sports Development; Babangla Hussaini from Defence to Works and Housing.
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate redeployment of nine permanent secretaries.
The redeployment was communicated via circular issued on Thursday by the Head of Service of the Federation (HoS) Dr Folasade Yemi- Esan.
The affected permanent secretaries and their designation include Musa Mikfuktur Istifanus from Communications and Digital Economy to Defence; Gabriel Aduda, Sports and Youth Development to Foreign Affairs; Ernest Umakhihe, Work and Housing to Agriculture and Rural Development; and Festus Narai Daudu, CSO Office of Head of Service of the Federation to Communications and Digital Economy.
Others were Nebolisa Anako from Information and Culture to Sports and Youth Development; Babangida Hussaini, Defence to Works and Housing; Dr Anthonia Ekpa, Office of Head of Service of the Federation to Women Affairs; Dr Adaora Anyanwutaku, Women Affairs to Information and Culture; while James Sule was posted from Office of Head of Service of the Federation to Cabinet
