Country music star Morgan Wallen said his use of a racist slur was “playful” but he now knows it was wrong.
The Tennessee-born singer, 28, had the number one album in the US when footage emerged in February of him using offensive language.
He faced a backlash from the country music industry, including being barred from awards shows and having his songs removed from streaming service playlists.

It may have been a disastrous week for Morgan Wallen in most ways, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at the album chart, where country’s newest superstar and, for now, its most famous pariah remains at No. 1 for a fourth consecutive week.
Wallen’s “Dangerous: The Double Album” remained on top of the Rolling Stone album chart with numbers that were both up and down. In the overall picture, it had 144,200 album-equivalent units for the week, an increase from 127,600 in its third week. But that reflected an uptick in sales even as the album trended downward in streams. Album sales were at 28,400 (up from 10,800 last week) and individual song sales came in at 55,500 (up from 33,000). This is soooo good! Alli Walker made this girl s perspective of Morgan Wallen s Sand In My Boots and honestly, I m not sure which one is more heartbreaking, haha. Either way, this is a really cool version.
Ya know, I wish I had just like HALF the talent of some of the people on TikTok, haha. It amazes me at what pops up on my For You Page sometimes.

On social media, Dan Smyers (right) and Shay Mooney performed the song a cappella, with Smyers anchoring the arrangement on low harmonies and Mooney showing his range. Dan + Shay aren t trying to mimic Wallen s East Tennessee twang or country grit; in fact, this mini-cover is remarkably more polished than the new track on the chart-leading album. Can t stop listening to Sand in My Boots by @morganwallen so figured we d sing it for y all, the pair write. Songs like this are why we fell in love with country music.
