After staying there for over nine years, he returned home in 2007, Rafikul said, adding that after returning home he purchased some land with his savings and started gourd farming on a limited scale, alongside serving as a private tutor, for a livelihood.
He expand his cultivation area in 2018, and in the first year of commercial cultivation, he earned a profit of Tk 50,000 from one bigha of land, followed by a profit of Tk 1,20,000 the following year.
3.89 lakh tonnes garlic yield expected in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, Jan 13, 2020 (BSS)- Around 3.89 lakh tonnes of garlic yield are expected to be harvested from around 46,117 hectares of land in all eight districts of Rajshahi division during the current season.
Target has been set to produce around 2.63 lakh tonnes of garlic from 31,260 hectares of land in four districts under Rajshahi Agricultural Zone, while another 1.27 lakh tonnes from 14,957 hectares of land in four other districts under Bogura Agricultural Zone.
Sirajul Islam, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), said all possible measures were adopted to attain the production target in the region this season.

Scientists and researchers have urged the field level agricultural extension officials and others concerned to devise ways and means on how to boost spice production locally to make the country self-reliant in spice production.
Utmost emphasis should be given on meeting up the local demands through boosting local production after the best uses of existing natural resources. All the modern technologies, knowledge and ideas along with the high yielding varieties need to be reached to the grassroots farmers.
They came up with the observation while addressing a ‘research-extension-farmers integrated workshop’ held at the conference hall of Spice Research Centre (SRC) in Shibganj Upazila of the district today.
