The Critical Issues Forum (CIF) continues to enhance its efforts to engage youth in disarmament and nonproliferation education activities virtually unimpeded by the global pandemic as we all navigate through this challenging situation. On January 29, 2021, the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies hosted the CIF’s Second Speaker Series. The event featured the Youth Champions for Disarmament, an initiative undertaken by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA). The UNODA spearheads youth engagement in disarmament with the mission of strengthening international peace and security. By sharing this common mission, our center has nurtured a long-time partnership with the UNODA to promote disarmament and nonproliferation education, especially for younger generations. Post on 11 February 2021 by Anne Marie Steiger February 11, 2021 Kaitlin Emmons, Margarita Kalinina-Pohl, Nomsa Ndongwe In observance of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science globally celebrated on February 11, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that “advancing gender equality in science and technology is essential for building a better future.” The UN Secretary-General’s view is one shared by CNS, whose latest event, a course for nearly 80 female professionals from 23 countries across Africa, aimed to advance women in STEM through WMD nonproliferation training. Successful Completion of 2020-2021 Online Undergraduate Fellowship

Post on 29 January 2021 by Anne Marie Steiger January 29, 2021 Masako Toki The 2020-2021 Online Undergraduate Nonproliferation Fellowship Program at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) has successfully concluded after a two-week long January training (January 4-15), which was the final portion of the program. The Fellowship Program provided undergraduate students with a unique, academically rigorous, enriching, and innovative program despite the challenging situation in which the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated all educational activities to be conducted remotely. Dr. Potter congratulates undergraduate fellows at the closing ceremony. After the three-week long online training in the summer of 2020, fourteen undergraduate fellows continued work on independent research projects based on their chosen topic with guidance and advice from CNS mentors.
