THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball has made three offseason additions to its 2021 signing class. The three future Jackets will join 12 returning current players, including all six regular starters. The second of its offseason signings is incoming freshman

Goolsby will remain close to home upon her arrival on the Flats as she hails from Mariette, Ga. The future Jacket setter follows her Tech family legacy as her father, Brent, played football for the Ramblin’ Wreck from 1988-92 while her mother, grandfather and cousin are all Georgia Tech grads as well.
Goolsby spent her high school playing career at Walton High School, where she was a four-year letter winner and a two-year captain. The incoming freshman helped lead the Raiders to become Georgia’s 7A State Champions for three consecutive years from 2017-19 as well as Georgia’s 3-7A Regional Champions all four of her high school years from 2017-20. The Class 7A bracket in Florida is arguably the toughest road to a high school softball state title. Four teams in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball rankings are in the 7A tournament and play in this week s Regional Semifinals this week.
On Tuesday, third-ranked Lakewood Ranch (Bradenton, Fla.) meets No. 11 Newsome (Lithia, Fla.) for the second time in 13 days. This one is win-or-go-home. In Round One, it was a pair of sophomores for the Mustangs that helped lift Lakewood Ranch to a 2-0 victory. Amanda Lee knocked in two runs and Olivia Laney pitched a complete-game six hitter. The winner plays Friday in the Regional Finals.

Barbe (Lake Charles) finished the season with eight straight wins, including a 3-1 Louisiana Class 5A state title over Airline on Saturday. A two-run home run by Madison Chretien and strong pitching by Halie Pappion propelled the tournament third seed to its first state title since 1997. Top-ranked Leander (Texas) opened postseason play by scoring 34 runs over two games while Lauren Tetreault and SJ Geurin each pitched complete-game shutouts. The Lions are back in action on Saturday against Southwest in Area play.

Florida is one off 11 states headed to the postseason this week while others are still in their season s infancy. Lakewood Ranch (Bradenton, Fla.), No. 3 in this week s MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball, landed the 7A District 12 two-seed, while the one seed went to No. 9 Newsome (Lithia, Fla.). The two could meet up Friday in the District final.
The top team in California keeps changing each week as Golden State action really starts to ramp up. With so much talent spread throughout the Golden State and the unlikelihood of any postseason, one or two losses could really impact where a team finishes in the rankings.
