Henry County graduation ceremonies begin Wednesday at Atlanta Motor Speedway

McDONOUGH — Henry County s Class of 2021 will kick off commencement ceremonies starting Wednesday. Each ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Atlanta Motor Speedway May 19-28. All graduations will be streamed on the district’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com and search Henry County Schools. Families should enter the speedway parking lot from the main entrance on Tara Boulevard. Once parked, enter the through gates 13 and 14. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Graduates will be seated on the field and family in the stands. The following the graduation schedule: • May 19 – Ola High School • May 20 – Luella High School • May 21 – Stockbridge High School

Henry County Schools names STAR students, teachers

McDONOUGH – Union Grove High student Tyler Cook and Emily Mai, Community Christian School, have been named the STAR Student winners for Henry County. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the annual ceremony held at Eagle’s Landing Country Club was suspended this year. However, all STAR Students and STAR Teachers were recognized at their respective schools with a visit from school officials and members of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce. Students earning the county’s STAR Student designation represent the highest score on the SAT among finalists from each high school – public and private – in Henry County. This is the second year in a row that two students have tied for the top score. Unique to this year’s slate of honorees is the three-way tie for one school’s – Luella High School – top SAT score.

Georgia high schools receive grants from Shaquille O’Neal s foundation Shaq gives back to Georgia high school athletics departments Six Georgia high schools are among the 23 nationwide to receive a Get Game Ready grant from the Shaquille O’Neal Foundation. ATLANTA - The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation has partnered with Icy Hot to help high school athletes and athletic programs burdened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the 136 high schools from around the country that applied, 23 are being awarded ‘Get Game Ready’ grants, including six in Georgia. The grants will help cover the costs of personal protective equipment (PPE), essential supplies, equipment, transportation expenses, and more. School recipients are also receiving expert healthcare-focused guidance from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).
