DENGAON: Reaching out to militant outfits who bid farewell to arms in Assam, Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday said all promises made to 1,040 surrendered youths from Karbi Anglong will be fulfilled within a year.
Welcoming the insurgents to mainstream society, Shah said they can enjoy all the rights and privileges like any other Indian citizen.
On February 23, extremist youths from five groups laid down arms. I want to assure you that the promises made to you by our officers will be fulfilled within one year to assimilate you into the mainstream, he told a public rally here. ....

Reaching out to militant outfits who bid farewell to arms in Assam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said all promises made to 1,040 surrendered youths from Karbi Anglong will be fulfilled within a year. Welcoming the insurgents to mainstream society, Shah said they can enjoy all the rights and privileges like any other Indian citizen.

Assam: Karbi militant outfits' members surrender


Altogether 1040 members of five militant outfits operating in undivided Karbi Anglong district in Assam laid down arms here on Tuesday evening, two days ahead of signing a peace accord in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah. Shah is scheduled to visit the poll-bound state on February 25.
This is the third major “mainstreaming” of rebels since 2020. Altogether 1,615 members from three National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) factions had laid down arms in January 2020, three days after the signing of the tripartite Bodo Accord. This was followed by laying down of arms by 64 rebels belonging to four outfits, the big catch being Ulfa(I)’s deputy commander-in-chief Drishti Rajkhowa. ....

GUWAHATI: A total of 1,040 cadre of five militant groups active in Karbi Anglong district of Assam surrendered before chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati on Tuesday.
The groups are People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT), Kuki Liberation Front (KLF) and United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA).
A total of 338 arms surrendered before the chief minister.
PDCK chief IK Songbijit, a most wanted militant, also surrendered before the CM. He was the former commander-in-chief of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). However, after the Ranjan Daimary- led faction decided to join suspension of operation agreement, Songbijit, being a Karbi, was sidelined by the new leadership of the then anti-talk faction B Saoraigwra.
