As 2021 dawned, stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui was arrested from a club in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, for âmocking the deities of another religionâ and no one uttered a word about intolerance.
Faruqui was arrested by the Indore police after a complaint from Eklavya Goud, chief of Hindu Rakshak Sangathan and secretary of the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the son of BJP MLA Malini Gaud.
Faruqui remained in jail for over a month, though the police had no evidence of his âcrimeâ. His bail plea was rejected two times, including by the Madhya Pradesh High Court, until he was granted bail on February 5 by the Supreme Court.

SURAT: Five years ago, they lost their pet dog to renal failure as it couldn’t get dialysis treatment on time. This doctor family will now ensure that no pet suffering from renal failure in the state suffers.
The Chauhan family has decided to set up dialysis facility for pet animals in the city.
The facility that will initially treat cats and dogs is expected to become operational by the end of this month. “Pet owners from the state currently have to travel all the way to Mumbai or Chennai for the dialysis facility and they end up spending Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per trip. Now they can treat their pets in the state. Fees will be taken from pet owners who can afford to pay money while stray dogs will be given dialysis for free,” said Dr Mahendra Chauhan, an ophthalmic surgeon who runs Keshvi Charitable Trust.
