The last time the city’s positivity rate was below 9.94% was on March 13, when it stood at 9.62%
MUMBAI: Gains from the lockdown-like curbs are beginning to show, though only in Mumbai and a couple of other districts.
The city’s daily positivity rate (PR) has dropped 50% from 20.8% on April 1 to 9.9% on April 30 giving hope that the second wave could be ebbing. Experts said the infection continues to rage in the rest of Maharashtra with Nagpur, Nashik and Thane showing a positivity of more than 30%.
Daily PR, statewide, remains as high as 23%, declining by barely 2% in the last 30 days.
BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal said Mumbai was perhaps the only city in India with such a low PR at present. “Our positivity rate is in single digit now despite carrying out 44,000 tests,” he said.
Devendra Fadnavis claimed that the present government is unaware of the ground reality
Mumbai:
Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday accused the Maha Vikas Aghadi government of repackaging the Centre s ongoing schemes and presenting them as its own measures for people affected by the COVID-19 curbs.
Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, the BJP leader said the measures announced by the Uddhav Thackeray government were an eyewash, as it has simply repackaged the Centre s schemes and presented it as its own. A huge population is going to be affected due to the newly-announced curbs amid the pandemic, but it will not receive any financial assistance from this government, Mr Fadnavis said.

NEW DELHI: The fresh Covid lockdown in Maharashtra has become a worry for the car industry, which fears that the recent boost in demand may be punctured, especially on the retail front.
Dealers too are worried and say that a prolonged period of shutdown may lead to closure of many car and two-wheeler retailers, many of whom are still to recover fully from the negative impact of the first lockdown of last year.
Maharashtra is estimated to contribute 15-20% to the country’s car and SUV sales and a reversal in demand in the state due to restrictions will disturb the resurgence of the industry, company executives told TOI.
