HELENA â Governor Greg Gianforte recently hosted a ceremonial bill signing of House Bill 276, which adds Peer Support Specialists to the Montana Board of Behavioral Health. Peer Support Specialists are those who have suffered from addiction or behavioral health disorders, recovered, and now use their life experience to mentor others.
The career came a long way over the past decade to become recognized by the state. People with lived experiences, to know that our story is going to save a life one day is beyond honorable, says Savanah Webb, a Certified Peer Coach.

Lewis & Clark County has a program in place with
âWe want to be able to make sure that people have that wrap-around care that s gonna give them the greatest chance of success,â says Officer Norris. âWe know that they are not gonna get that, generally speaking, if they spend time in jail. That doesn t typically solve problems for people, it tends to accentuate them.â
Pretrial services work to provide resources to individuals as they await trial, but they admit, many times they lack the shared experience that can better help them understand what might work best for an individual.
