Sherani says no problem in reuniting with JUI-F if Fazl agrees to it

Sherani says no problem in reuniting with JUI-F if Fazl agrees to it Pakistan Thu, Apr 01, 2021 Jamit Ulema-e-Islam Fazl s (JUI-F) former leader Maulana Mohammad Sherani (left) and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. File photo QUETTA: Jamit Ulema-e-Islam Fazl s (JUI-F)   former leader Maulana Mohammad Sherani said Thursday there is no problem in reuniting with party leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman if the latter agreed to it.  Sherani and Maulana Gul Naseeb, both leaders who were expelled last year by Fazl, were addressing media after meeting Fazl, who has been resting after contracting a fever.  We did not discuss anything related to politics in our meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Sherani said, adding that they had met the PDM chief only to inquire about his health.

Attempts for Fazl s technical knockout: Move intended to dent his high-profile political role

National February 2, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Four former veteran leaders of the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), who have recently been expelled from the party, are attempting to knock out party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on technical grounds in a bid to overwhelm him and snatch political power from his tight control. But even if such an effort meets with success, will it have an impact on the stature and standing of Fazlur Rehman within his party, in the opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) or on the overall political horizon? Will the moves by the dissenters affect his hold on the JUI-F? If the past is any guide, the answer to these questions would be in the negative. During General Ziaul Haq’s martial law, the late Maulana Samiul Haq had broken away from the JUI and founded his own faction. However, Fazlur Rehman had maintained his status as the undisputed chief of the party and Samiul Haq’s group was never able to show any worthwhile electoral performance.

Transformation for survival

Transformation for survival January 18, 2021 Religious parties have always been very instrumental in the making and breaking of governments – military and civilian – in Pakistan. They work in pockets in different areas of the country. And running in the mainstream of national-level politics has kept them away from becoming a party of a specific region or a province. The good thing about them is that they are also the units of federation. They score less seats in the legislature, but they do represent all of Pakistan, with their elected members becoming part of the National Assembly from all four provinces of the country. Their participation in coalition governments or part of the opposition shows that they are a rather important ingredient in the country’s politics.
