Beginning Friday, select downtown businesses will offer Little Richard-themed cocktails, beverages and food to honor the self-described Architect of Rock & Roll who died May 9, 2020, at age 87 in Nashville. “We will be trying to encourage people to patronize the local businesses downtown for food and drinks and we’re going to do that by having a Little Richard Memorial Weekend passport,” said Nancy Cleveland, who is helping organize the event.

  SASKATOON Some members of the King George and Pleasant Hill community are holding out hope that Saskatoon Public Schools (SPS) will consider their idea for an alternate school site. The $29 million, 500-student city centre school project will amalgamate King George, Pleasant Hill and Princess Alexandra Schools. That alternate site, named Parcel P, is on the land of the former Parrish and Heimbecker plant. SPS announced this month that two options are in the running; the current Princess Alexandra school site on Avenue H or Optimist Park in the Riversdale neighbourhood. Adam Pollock lives just west of his preferred location and is the chair of the Pleasant Hill Community Association.

A Macon community center reopened its doors on Wednesday to serve Pleasant Hill community.  The Community Enhancement Authority and others celebrated the reopening of the revitalized Booker T. Washington Community Center on Monroe Street. The center had been closed since the summer of 2016, and many people in Pleasant Hill came out to celebrate. The center will offer classes, counseling, and host space for several community groups. Tedra Huston, Director of the Community Enhancement Authority, says she s happy is to have the building open again.

Macon-Bibb Commissioners approve funding for mental health initiative Listen to the content of this post: MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb Commissioners voted Tuesday night to approve funding for Mayor Lester Miller’s initiative to address mental health. “This program incorporates a holistic approach for reducing recidivism, resolving conflicts without violence, and also increasing access to mental healthcare within the Macon-Bibb community,” Miller said last month. The county will provide The Southern Center for Choice Theory $50,000 per month for one year, using CARES Act funds, to establish cost-free mental health clinics that provide services like mental health counseling, conflict resolution counseling, and anger management classes.
