The Akwa Ibom State Government has cancelled all state events requiring large gatherings as it confirmed 48 new cases of COVID-19 in the state.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman of the COVID-19 Management Committee, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, cautioned residents against acts that might lead to another lockdown with its attendant consequences.
He said; “large political meetings are discouraged until the current spike of COVID-19 infections is reduced.
“Religious leaders must adhere strictly to the guidelines and protocols for programmes as developed by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and submitted to the government.

Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman of the COVID-19 Management Committee, said this during a press briefing tagged “Second Wave of COVID-19: Need for Strict Compliance with Guidelines and Protocols.”
Ekwuwem cautioned Akwa Ibom residents against acts that might lead to another lockdown with its attendance consequences.
He said “large political meetings are discouraged until the current spike of COVID-19 infections is reduced.

About 48 persons have tested positive for coronavirus in Akwa Ibom State in less than two weeks.
The Secretary to State Government and Chairman, COVID-19 management committee, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing tagged “The second wave of COVID-19; Need for strict compliance with guidelines and protocols” held in government house Uyo.
He cautioned Akwa Ibom people against flouting the safety precautions given by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, saying the non-adherence to such protocols may lead to another Lockdown.
He said all COVID-19 Guidelines and Protocol Compliance Monitoring Teams would ensure enforcement even as state government events requiring large crowds would be cancelled.

Worried by the resurgence of coronavirus with no fewer than 48 new cases of infections so far recorded, the Akwa Ibom State Government has cancelled all state government events requiring large crowds and warned residents to imbibe all safety protocols.
Towards this end, the government has warned residents that it would enforce compliance to the rules strictly and wowed to sanction any defaulter of the COVID-19 guidelines after the state had recorded zero infections in recent months, but soon wake up to realize that the new spike in the pandemic could be so dangerous to the over six million population.
